Home Builders Institute

The Home Builders Institute (HBI) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing tuition-free, hands-on training in residential construction trades. Operating in 46 states, HBI offers programs in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other construction disciplines. These programs are designed to serve a diverse range of individuals, including at-risk youth, veterans, displaced workers, and justice-involved adults, aiming to equip them with the skills needed for successful careers in the building industry. Through partnerships with organizations like the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and The Home Depot Foundation, HBI has expanded its reach, opening BuildStrong Academies in cities such as Houston, Orlando, and Denver to provide accessible training opportunities. homebuilding.academy+11lumberbluebook.com+11builderonline.com+11nahb.org+1idealist.org+1futureofbusinessandtech.com+3builderonline.com+3windowanddoor.com+3

HBI’s curriculum is one of only three nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, offering certifications like OSHA-10 and pre-apprenticeship credentials. The organization boasts an impressive job placement rate of over 80% for its graduates. In addition to technical training, HBI emphasizes the development of employability skills such as responsibility, time management, and effective communication. With the construction industry facing a significant labor shortage, HBI’s initiatives play a crucial role in addressing this gap by preparing a new generation of skilled tradespeople.
