The Construction Career Launcher program at the College of Western Idaho (CWI) is an intensive 8-week pre-apprenticeship designed to equip individuals with the foundational skills necessary for a career in the construction industry. Participants receive hands-on training in essential construction techniques, safety protocols, and tool usage. A key component of the program is earning the OSHA-10 Construction certification, a credential that enhances employability in the construction sector. The program culminates in a job fair, providing graduates with the opportunity to connect directly with potential employers and jump-start their careers.
Open to individuals aged 16 and older, the program is accessible to those seeking to enter the construction workforce promptly. While the full cost of the course is valued at $320, it is subsidized through grants from organizations like the Idaho Association of General Contractors and We Build Idaho, reducing the student cost to $45. Classes are held in the evenings, making it feasible for participants to balance other commitments. The program is part of CWI’s broader Workforce Development initiative, which aims to provide practical, career-oriented training to meet the demands of the local job market.
